Description

An amazing sunset over Ersfjordbotn in Northern Norway... The skies were dull and completely overcast the whole day, and even at sunset, it didn't seem like there would be much action going on. I was giving up, but how wrong I was! The clouds started to break apart, and as the sun set overl the mountains to the left, a breathtaaking display of colour started to unfold in front of me... This is the shot I planned and hoped for, and the sole reason I traveled to Norway in the first place. Seing the scene come to life like that was really one of the best moments ever :)

Every time a see a photo from Norway, it makes me want to go hiking there. This photo is of no exception.

First of all, great timing. The clouds look great and not to imposing, which helps create a certain smoothness to the image. The pink colours also reflect that feeling.

Although mountains always look good in any season, you can't beat snowy ones. The landscape looks great, and I love the way the two mountains dip in the horizon, creating a long valley, which is where the eye is drawn to thanks to the lines created by the mountains, the reflections and even the rocks.

The sky and lake are nicely seperated at the half way point, and the reflected sky and mountains work well. The relfections are blurry and not sharp, but I find that this adds to the smoothness that I talked about earlier.

The only draw back for me is the rocks in the foreground. With this kind of landscape photo, you need something in the foreground to give your photo depth, and although these rocks accomplish that task they feel out of place.
The rest of the photo is very smooth and peaceful, but these rocks are jagged and sharp, giving the photo "hardness" that we don't want.
Smooth rocks would have been perfect, but you can't have everything. Maybe long exposed grass would do the trick as well, but even grass doesn't grow everywhere.

But all in all it's a very good photo. Well done.
